Songwriting

Our Songwriting workshops and classes engage participants in self-expression and creativity through lyric and melody. This workshop teaches song structure and the principles of lyric writing, using a variety of techniques such free writing to stimulate the creative mind. Participants analyze old and new hit songs, identify themes and develop listening skills.

Songwriting for Seniors: reach into our memories and get at the raw material of our own lives with writing prompts and games. As you tap into your personal history and imagination, your writing will gain power, depth, and color. Use what you find in this workshop to shape your songs, poems, stories, and memoirs in rich, new, and unexpected ways.

For Schools: Curriculum which may be coordinated with this workshop include English, Creative Writing, History, Science, Foreign Language (all).

Instructors: Songwriting workshops are taught by acclaimed professional songwriters/teaching artists Mary Lee Kortes, Bar Scott, Valerie Ghent, Ina May Wool and Thomas Boyd who have performed and taught extensively, released multiple albums of their original music and had songs covered by other artists.
