Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble workshop teaches beginning jazz theory, improvisation, song forms, soloing and trading ‘call and response’. Classes for younger students involve fun techniques such as making a ‘mambo lasagne’ with percussion and interacting with a professional jazz ensemble. Presentation can also be structured for large, interactive school concerts. Culminates in performance.

Instructors: Classes are taught by master instructor and world renowned Latin jazz pianist, Arturo O’Farrill and saxophonist Erica von Kleist. A member of the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Ms. vonKleist developed curriculum for Education Department of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
