Kara Janeczko has contributed media literacy curriculum to Listen Up!, RECYouth, MIX NYC and Feel the Music!. In 2007, she was the festival director for the RECYouth Multimedia festival, hosted by the Directors Guild of America. In addition to teaching, writing, photography and video production to children and teens, Kara is an adjunct lecturer at City College where she is an MFA candidate in fiction writing. In 2008, Kara was the assistant to the director for the award winning documentary, Pressure Cooker. Continuing her interest in documentary filmmaking, she traveled to Namibia, Mauritius, and Kenya for HelpAge International to produce a film focusing on pension distribution.
In television Kara has worked on the environmental home makeover show Wasted! for Planet Green and Cash Cab for the Discovery Channel. In narrative filmmaking she was the location manager and associate producer for Three Backyards, winner of the best director award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
Kara currently resides in Brooklyn, New York where she writes fiction (when not working on the set of vampire movies) and dreams of a day when she can return to all her lovely friends at CMP in Poughkeepsie.
